About Jim
FOURTH GENERATION NASHVILLIAN
Jim grew up here, attended Metro Schools, and has lived in the areas of Donelson, Hermitage, and Antioch his entire life. He earned his degree in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University and spent 32 years with South Central Bell and Bellsouth. He and Carol, his wife of 33 years, attend Madison Church of Christ. He said, "My roots in Nashville run deep. I grew up right here in this district. I love the city I call home and would never want to live anywhere else."
METRO COUNCIL
During his tenure as Metro Councilman, Jim Gotto distinguished himself as a member who was never afraid to take on the status quo in Nashville. He publicly spoke out against the abuse of eminent domain. He was a joint sponsor of a bill that resulted in an independent Metro Internal Auditor, not one that reports to the Mayor's Office. He is particularly proud of the historic overlay that now protects the historic Hermitage and Tulip Grove Mansion properties and the extension of sanitary sewers to over 130 homes in the Seven Points area near Percy Priest Lake.
